Murray Bridge’s annual Youth Art Prize showcases diverse artistic talents of young people aged 12-25. Empowering them to pursue their creative aspirations, it offers them a platform to creatively express their views through art making.

This year, we have received yet another record-breaking number of entries, up by 25% from last year!

Since its humble beginnings co-initiated by The Station over twelve years ago, this project has grown substantially in scale and profile. In 2020, it reached record numbers of artworks and entrants! In 2021, we are growing further the opportunities for young people participating in this event.

The prize pool has more than doubled with more than triple the number of prize recipients since the exhibition moved to Murray Bridge Regional Gallery five years ago.

This year’s prize judge is Andrew Purvis, Curator, Adelaide Central Gallery. Andrew is a curator, writer, and artist. He is the curator at Adelaide Central Gallery, attached to the Adelaide Central School of Art. He has previously worked as the Project Officer for Visual Arts, Craft and Writing at the Department of Culture and the Arts in Western Australia, and curated exhibitions for the Fremantle Arts Centre, the Lawrence Wilson Gallery, and the Adelaide Town Hall. He has recently contributed a monograph on artist Roy Ananda, published to coincide with the 2021 SALA festival. Andrew has a Bachelor of Arts (Art, Honours) (2010) and a Masters of Arts (Art) (2012) from Curtin University, Perth.

Councilor Karen Eckermann, Co-founder and Patron of Murraylands Animal Welfare Watch will judge the prize for the Best Compassionate Depiction of an Animal.
